Alpaca fiber and alpaca blends
Alpaca is warm out of all proportion to its weight, silky rather than springy, and it drapes rather than bounces. Spun alone it makes a soft, fluid yarn with a subtle halo; blended with merino it gains a little structure while keeping that warmth.
Our baby alpaca tops come undyed in white, fawn, grey, brown, dark brown and black, so you can spin natural shades or dye your own. On the blend side you'll find the mountain-named merino and alpaca combed tops, including Matterhorn Blue, Eiger Grey, Monte Rosa Red, Monte Viso Purple, Mont Blanc Taupe and Dolomites Green, plus alpaca with bleached and extra bleached tussah silk, a pink merino, alpaca and mohair mix, and a luxury superfine merino, brown alpaca, camel and mulberry silk top.
